This random number generator draws numbers between any smallest and biggest value you set, up to 1,000 numbers at a time. Add decimal places if you need them, ask for all-unique whole numbers, sort the results, and read the sum and average of the draw underneath.

How to use this random number generator

    1. Type the smallest and biggest values for your range. Both ends count, so a range of 1 to 6 behaves like a real die, with 1 and 6 as likely as any other face.
    2. Set how many numbers to draw, from 1 to 1,000. One number settles a quick pick, while a large batch suits sampling, testing or filling a sheet with practice data.
    3. Add decimal places, from 0 to 10, if whole numbers are not fine enough. Zero places means whole numbers only, and more places suit measurements and simulations.
    4. Tick the unique option if repeats are not allowed. It works on whole numbers, and the tool will say so plainly if the range holds fewer whole numbers than you asked for.
    5. Tick sort if you want the results in order, then draw and read the sum and average under the results to sense check the batch at a glance.

Negative ranges work the same way. Set a negative smallest value and the draw runs from below zero up to your biggest value without any change in behaviour.

Why this random number generator uses rejection sampling

Turning raw random bytes into a number inside a range is easy to get subtly wrong. The lazy method takes a big random number and keeps the remainder after dividing by the range size, and that method quietly favours low numbers whenever the range does not divide the byte space evenly. The bias is small, and it is real, and over a big batch it bends results.

This tool draws again instead. Rejection sampling throws away any draw that would skew the odds and pulls a fresh one, so every value in the range has the same chance of coming up, the first value, the last value and every value between them. It costs a few redraws and buys a flat, honest distribution.

The numbers come from the secure random source built into your browser, the same source security tools draw from. Strictly speaking that makes them cryptographically secure pseudo-random numbers: produced by an algorithm, but one with no pattern a program can ride to predict the next draw.

What they are not is physically random. Services famous for randomness harvest noise from the world, such as atmospheric static. A browser tab has no access to anything like that, and this page will not pretend otherwise.

Details and limits of this random number generator

The unique option applies to whole numbers only. Decimal draws can still repeat after rounding: two different raw draws can both land on 0.42 once they are cut to two places, and the more places you keep, the rarer that gets.

Unique mode has a hard edge and the tool names it. A range of 1 to 5 holds exactly five whole numbers, so asking for six unique numbers from it is impossible, and you get a clear error rather than a hang, a duplicate or a quietly short list.

Setting the smallest and biggest values equal is allowed and returns that value every time, which sounds pointless and is occasionally exactly what a test needs. The count cap is 1,000 numbers per draw, which keeps the page quick and the results readable.

One boundary matters more than the rest. These draws carry no certification and no audit trail, so they suit games, giveaways among friends, classroom picks, sampling and simulation, and they do not suit regulated lotteries, official draws or anything where a result must be proven fair to a third party.

Draws happen on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the results vanish when the tab closes.

    FAQs

Are both ends of the range included in this random number generator?

Yes, both ends are fully in play. A range of 1 to 6 can return 1 and can return 6, each with the same chance as 2, 3, 4 or 5, which is the behaviour people expect from dice and draws.

How do I get random numbers with no repeats?

Tick the unique option and keep decimal places at zero. The tool then draws whole numbers without repeating any of them, up to the size of the range itself. If you ask for more unique numbers than the range holds, it stops with a clear message.

Why did the tool refuse my unique request?

Because the maths cannot be done. A range holds a fixed count of whole numbers, 1 to 5 holds five, and no honest tool can hand you six different ones. Widen the range or lower the count and the draw runs at once.

What does the decimal places setting do?

It controls how finely the draw cuts numbers inside your range. Zero places gives whole numbers. Two places gives values like 3.14 style measurements, and ten places gives the fine grain simulations like. Draws are rounded to the places you pick, and the results show that rounding.

    Is this true randomness?

Not in the physical sense. The numbers come from your browser’s cryptographically secure pseudo-random generator, which no practical method can predict, and that is the right standard for games, picks and testing. Physical randomness from real world noise is a different thing, and official draws need certified systems rather than a web page.

    Can I draw negative numbers?

Yes. Set the smallest value below zero and the biggest wherever you like, and the range simply spans across zero. The unique option, sorting, sum and average all behave the same as they do in a positive range.
