Most clips carry dead seconds: the camera rolling before anything happens, the tail after it ends. This trimmer cuts a video down to the part that matters, and it offers the honest choice most trimmers bury. Fast mode copies the file without re-encoding, finished in seconds with the quality untouched. Precise mode re-encodes and cuts on the exact frame you chose.

Why does fast mode deserve a warning? A video can only be cut cleanly at special frames called keyframes, which are usually a few seconds apart, so a fast cut can start up to a few seconds early, at the keyframe just before your mark. The warning sits next to the mode choice, not in fine print, and the preview player with its Set start and Set end buttons makes marking the stretch easy either way.

    How to trim a video

    1. Drop the video into the box. A preview player appears.

    2. Play the video, pause where the good part starts, and press Set start at playhead. Do the same at the end. Times can also be typed, as seconds or as 1:30.

    3. Choose Fast for a seconds-long copy job, or Precise for an exact cut.

    4. Press Trim the Video and download the result.

Fast or precise: which do you need?

Fast suits trimming the head and tail of a recording where a second either way means nothing, and it is the only mode worth using on a very large file. Precise suits a cut that lands mid-sentence or mid-action, a clip for a presentation, or a GIF source. Precise costs a re-encode, so on a long file it takes minutes, not seconds, and the result is a fresh MP4 or WebM to match your source.

    Details and honest limits

The engine note: this runs a real encoder inside your browser. The first job downloads about 31 MB of engine files once, your browser caches them, and your video itself never leaves the device.

The trimmer keeps one continuous part. Joining several parts is editing, and no honest browser tool does it in one step. Fast mode can take files up to 500 MB. Precise mode is happiest under 200 MB and 10 minutes. The output keeps the source’s own format where it can. After trimming, the video to GIF page turns the same kind of selection into a looping GIF, and the whole set lives in the video tools collection.

Why the start and end are where the value is

Recordings collect their dead time at the edges: the seconds while the camera settles, the presenter clears a throat, the screen sits idle before the demo starts, the applause tail after the point was made. Viewers decide in those first seconds whether a clip respects their time, which is why a tight trim changes how a video performs out of all proportion to how little picture it removes. Cutting five slack seconds from the head of a tutorial is worth more than any effect you could add to it.

    FAQs

Why did my fast trim start a few seconds early?

Fast mode copies the video without re-encoding, and a copy can only begin at a keyframe, the frames a player can start decoding from. The tool warns about this beside the mode choice. Switch to Precise mode for a frame-exact start.

    Does trimming reduce quality?

Fast mode, never: the picture and sound are copied untouched. Precise mode re-encodes at a setting chosen to stay visually close to the source.

Can I cut a piece from the middle?

Yes, that is what the start and end fields do. Set the start where the piece begins and the end where it finishes, and everything outside is dropped.

Can I keep two separate parts?

Not in one pass. Trim each part as its own file, then join them with the merge video tool.

What is the largest video I can trim?

500 MB in Fast mode. Precise mode re-encodes, so 200 MB and about 10 minutes is the practical range.

Do you keep a copy of my video?

No. Trimming runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or kept.
