Your files are processed in your browser, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Paste your titles, one per line, and this slug generator turns each one into a clean, lowercase URL slug straight away. Hyphens, underscores or dots, stop words in or out, numbers kept or dropped: you set the rules once and every line follows them.

How to use this slug generator

The generator works in batch from the start. A single title is fine, and so is a spreadsheet column of four hundred. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you paste leaves the page.

    • 1. Paste your titles into the box, one title per line. Leave blank lines where your list has gaps, because the output keeps them.
    • 2. Pick a separator. Hyphen is the default and the safest choice for new sites.
    • 3. Set your rules: remove common stop words or keep them, keep numbers or drop them, and cap the words or characters if your platform needs short URLs.
    • 4. Read the flags. Slugs over 60 characters are marked tight and slugs over 75 are marked long, as readability guidance only.
    • 5. Copy all the slugs in one click, or download a CSV that pairs every title with its slug.

What the slug generator does to each title

The transform is short enough to print in full. Accented letters fold to their plain forms, so an accented e becomes a plain e and the slug stays typeable on any keyboard. Everything is lowercased. Then every run of characters that is not a letter or a digit becomes one separator, which is why two spaces, a colon and a dash in a title all end up as a single hyphen in the slug.

Order is the quiet feature that makes batch mode work. One title in, one slug out, in the same order, blank lines included. Paste a column out of a spreadsheet, copy the slugs back, and every slug lands beside the title it came from. The CSV download pairs them for you if you would rather keep a file.

The length tools cut carefully. A maximum word count trims the tail of the title. A maximum character count cuts at a whole word, never mid word, so you will not ship a slug that ends in a broken fragment. The tight and long flags follow the same spirit: they warn, they do not block, because a descriptive slug at 80 characters is better than a vague one at 40.

Slugs for titles in Urdu, Arabic and other scripts

Here is the honest limit. Turning Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Korean text into Latin letters by rule is unreliable. The same word can romanize three ways, search engines and readers disagree on the spellings, and a confident looking output can simply be wrong.

So this generator does not fake it. The keep non-Latin letters option leaves those characters as they are, and your slug carries the original script. Browsers and modern platforms handle such URLs well, and the slug stays correct instead of approximately converted. If you need true transliteration for a large catalogue, that is a human editing job, and any tool that offers it in one click deserves a sceptical look at its output.

One more limit worth naming: the generator cleans titles, it does not judge them. It will happily slug a title that is stuffed, vague or far too long for the page it names. The flags help with length. The wording is still yours.

Where batch slug generation saves the most time

Site migrations top the list. A move to a new platform often means hundreds of titles that need matching slugs, in order, with no drift between the spreadsheet and the live site. Programmatic pages come next: location pages, product variants and template driven listings all start life as rows in a sheet.

CMS imports are the daily case. Authors draft titles in a document, an editor pastes the list here once, and the slugs go back consistent: same separator, same stop word rule, same length discipline across the whole site, instead of each author inventing a style per post.

    FAQs

    What is a URL slug?

The slug is the part of a URL that names the page, the readable tail after the domain. In example.com/best-travel-esim, the slug is best-travel-esim. A good slug tells a reader what the page holds before the click, in a few plain words.

Should I remove stop words from my slugs?

It is a style choice, not a ranking rule. Dropping words like the, a and of makes slugs shorter and cleaner. Keeping them makes some slugs read more naturally. Pick one rule for the whole site and hold to it, because consistency matters more than the choice.

Are hyphens better than underscores in a slug?

Google has long treated the hyphen as a word separator in URLs, while an underscore can read as a joiner that glues words together. For new pages the hyphen is the safer default. If a live site already uses underscores throughout, match the site rather than mixing styles.

How long can a slug be?

Google sets no hard length limit for slugs. The flags in this tool, tight past 60 characters and long past 75, are readability guidance only. Long slugs get truncated in some displays and are harder to say aloud, share and type, which is the real cost.

Can the generator handle titles in other languages?

Accented Latin letters fold to plain letters, so French, Spanish, German and Turkish titles convert cleanly. For scripts like Urdu, Arabic or Chinese, use the keep non-Latin letters option. Rule based romanization of those scripts is unreliable, and the tool says so instead of inventing spellings.

What does the CSV download contain?

Two columns: the title you pasted and the slug the generator made from it, one row per title, in your original order. It is the file you want when slugs feed a migration sheet, a redirect plan or a CMS import.
